Manhattanhenge

Tonight is sunset Manhattanhenge, when the setting sun aligns perfectly with the street grid of Manhattan. The next perfect sunset alignment is on the other side of the solstice in July.

The sunrise Manhattanhenges take place on either side of the winter solstice.

Quote for Your Sunday

This from Hemingway’s Moveable Feast:

“As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans.”

Makes one say, “Forget the holiday grilling. I need oysters and wine.” Doesn’t it?
